Frequently asked questions

How do I print a blank sudoku grid?

Pick the grid size and how many grids per page, choose A4 or US Letter, and press Print. Download PDF saves the same pages as a file you can print later or copy for a class.

What size is a standard sudoku grid?

The standard sudoku is 9×9, made of nine 3×3 boxes, for 81 cells. The blank 9×9 grid here fills the page width at one per page, with smaller grids at 2, 4 or 6 per page.

How is a 16x16 sudoku written?

A 16×16 sudoku needs 16 different symbols. Most puzzles use 1 to 9 and the letters A to G, or the hexadecimal digits 0 to 9 and A to F. The boxes are 4×4.

Can I make my own sudoku on a blank grid?

Yes, but a good puzzle must have exactly one solution, which is hard to check by hand. If you want ready-made puzzles with one answer, use the generator on the home page instead.

Why are some lines thicker?

The thick lines mark the boxes. Each box must contain every symbol once, just like each row and column, so it helps to see the boxes clearly when you solve.
